Installation & Setup Guide

Installation Instructions

This guide covers installing the macOS app and connecting the iOS companion so you can use ShortcutPad and Monitor Calibration.

What you need

  • A Mac running macOS 26.4 or later.
  • An iPhone or iPad running iOS 26.0 or later.
  • Both devices on the same Wi-Fi network, or an iPhone-to-Mac USB cable.

Install the Mac app

From the .dmg (recommended)

  1. Download Colorist Tool Kit Pro.dmg.
  2. Double-click the .dmg to mount it.
  3. Drag Colorist Tool Kit Pro.app onto the Applications alias in the disk image.
  4. Eject the disk image.
  5. Open the app from Applications the first time. macOS may show a Gatekeeper warning because it was downloaded from the web — if so, right-click the app icon and choose Open, then click Open again.

From the .zip (alternate)

  1. Download Colorist Tool Kit Pro.zip.
  2. Unzip the file.
  3. Drag Colorist Tool Kit Pro.app into your Applications folder.
  4. Open it from Applications the first time as described above.
The .app is notarized and stapled, so after the first manual open it should open normally on any Mac.

Grant Accessibility permission

The Mac app uses the native ShortcutPad Server to send keyboard shortcuts to DaVinci Resolve and OBS. macOS requires Accessibility permission for this.

  1. Open System SettingsPrivacy & SecurityAccessibility.
  2. If Colorist Tool Kit Pro is not in the list, click + and add it from Applications.
  3. Turn the switch on for Colorist Tool Kit Pro.

Start the ShortcutPad Server

  1. In the Mac app, click Tools in the sidebar.
  2. Click ShortcutPad Server.
  3. Toggle Run ShortcutPad Server to On.
  4. Note the Mac IP and Port shown. This is the address the iPhone/iPad will use.
The Mac app now has the server built in, so you do not need to run any Python scripts or install separate helper programs.

Install and set up the iOS companion

  1. Install Colorist Tool Kit Pro on your iPhone or iPad from the App Store, TestFlight, or Xcode.
  2. Open the app.
  3. Go to ShortcutPad.
  4. Tap the connection icon at the top of the screen.
  5. The Mac should appear under Discovered Macs. Tap it.
  6. If the Mac does not appear, type the Mac IP and Port from the Mac app into Manual Connection, then tap Connect.

Important iOS permissions

When the app first tries to find the Mac, iOS will ask for Local Network access. Choose Allow. If you missed it:

Using Monitor Calibration

  1. On the iPhone/iPad, go to Monitor Calibration.
  2. Tap Start. The screen will show the iPhone's IP address and port.
  3. On the Mac, connect your client or tool to iPhone-IP:8765.
  4. If the iPhone and Mac are not on the same Wi-Fi, connect them with a USB cable and use iproxy 8765 8765 in Terminal to create the link.
  5. The iPhone will receive the color patch and show measurements.

Troubleshooting

  • "iPhone/iPad only works when connected by USB": The two devices are not on the same Wi-Fi network. Connect both to the same Wi-Fi, or keep the USB cable attached. Make sure Local Network permission is On in iOS.
  • "Mac not discovered": Make sure the Mac's ShortcutPad Server is running, and the iOS and Mac are on the same network. Some routers block Bonjour between 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands — use a manual IP if needed.
  • "Keys are not sent to Resolve/OBS": Grant Accessibility permission to the Mac app and make sure Resolve or OBS is running.
  • "Another Mac won't open the app": For distribution to other Macs, the .app must be notarized with a Developer ID Application certificate. A personal Apple Development certificate only works on the Mac that built it.
